Jennifer Vishnevsky is a freelance writer and editor in the Philadelphia area, with interest in entertainment, lifestyle, general interest topics, media affairs, dating, relationships and pets.
She is currently a staff writer at Advertising Specialty Institute. She writes feature articles, news stories and other smaller items for Advantages magazine, a monthly publication geared toward distributor sales representatives in the promotional products industry. She researches topics and interviews experts for features, case studies and showcases. She is responsible for single handedly executing several departments in the magazine. She also oversees the Editorial Advisory Board by contacting members on a regular basis and asking for feedback and ideas for the magazine.
Prior to ASI, she was a managing editor for several years at The McNeill Group Inc, a custom publishing company. She supported editorial staff by writing, editing and producing several trade magazines. She worked directly with several clients, freelancers, designers and production coordinators on multiple publications. She was the managing editor for Direction magazine, the publication of the American Moving and Storage Association. In addition, she managed the ABA Insider, a bi-weekly newsletter, and two real estate publications for The Suburban West REALTORS Association and The Bucks County Association of REALTORS. Beyond her management duties, Jennifer served as the associate editor for Destinations, a bimonthly travel magazine for the American Bus Association. She also wrote articles and maintained the online content on a monthly basis for Lodging Magazine's Web site.
Previously, she was an intern for various print publications, ranging from USA Today to Washington Flyer Magazine. Her writing experience lies primarily in feature writing, from short pieces on general interest to long-form profiles. Some of the topics she has written about include entertainment, general interest, home design, technology, business and real estate. She also worked outside of print as a network news department editor at Morningside Partners. She worked on transcripts for CNN, MSNBC and FOX News using AP Style. Jennifer worked in a very deadline-driven environment and communicated directly with clients and contractors.
At U.S. News & World Report, Jennifer was an intern on the money & business desk, working on profiles and features on small business, personal finance, and executives/professionals. Jennifer's experience in newspaper writing came at USA Today, where she was a features intern. She wrote weekly trend stories for the At Home column in the Life section. She also worked closely with editors on research and story development. In this newsroom, Jennifer was given an opportunity to work in the newsroom covering the 2005 Oscars. She received high praises for her knowledge and interest in entertainment journalism.
Jennifer also worked as an intern/researcher at USA WEEKEND magazine, where she wrote feature stories for the second-largest magazine, with 51.5 million readers in more than 600 newspapers. In this capacity, Jennifer worked on several entertainment and general interest pieces, and also contributed research to several major stories.
She followed in the magazine track by working as an intern at The Magazine Group, Jennifer assisted editors on six magazines. The company produced over 60 trade publications. She researched and wrote stories, and also fact-checked all editorial content.
In addition to a wide range of writing experience, Jennifer has also worked as a copy editor for the American Society of Newspaper Editors Convention. She was one of 12 students nationally chosen to produce the daily newspaper and edited 12-15 stories each day with three professional newspaper editors. She also freelances as a contract editor for an educational company.
She graduated from American University with a print journalism degree and psychology minor. Her honors included the Dean's List, American University Leadership Scholarship, and participation in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She was a contributing writer for The Eagle, American University's bi-weekly newspaper. She is currently a member of several writing and editing associations.
Aside from writing, Jennifer is fluent in Russian and speaks intermediate-level Spanish. She is proficient in Microsoft Office, QuarkXPress, Photoshop, Lexis Nexis and both PC/MAC.
